"Carrie Ellwood: “I’m really pleased with how the team is shaping up. With the York game so close we are looking specifically at game scenarios and so catching and run-outs are crucial. I’m confident in the team’s ability and if we perform like we do regularly in training then we will be tough to beat.”

2011 Outdoor Matches
UMWCC Through to Knockouts. Next match against University of Edinburgh! May 4th - LEEDS (HOME) "We went into the match with fear and trepidation due to the high praise lauded upon this England player who went by the name of Kate Cross. Their batsmen got off to a steady start and were ticking over the singles, however we kept the pressure up in the field and restricted their running. Then one of our bowlers, by the name of boat, bowled this England lion from her place at the crease. After this, another couple of wickets followed after some spinning action from one that is known as 'the beast'. Next it was our turn to bat. Our two openers showed a cool temperament at the wicket, choosing their shots well and then smashing boundaries at available opportunities. Unfortunately at around the 80 mark a wicket was sadly lost, but our batsmen continued to fight valiantly. Sadly the previously high run rate could not be resuscitated, despite a late surge of boundary loving life from Frost and Dibble, and we finished our 30 overs on 133, having been chasing a target of 159 (I think). We had wickets in hand as that deathly bell was tolled. In summary a loss, but we left with our chins held high." May 8th - SHEFFIELD (AWAY) "Today the Mighty Mancs of Lancashire travelled into the heart of Yorkshire to face Sheffield, in the most significant clash between these English dynasties since the War of the Roses. After a first class toss, the North Western team elected to field and immediately implemented a culture of fear by making the field their own. Runs were thin on the ground for the two batsmen, who showed timidity in the face of some strong pace bowling and pressure in the field, in particular a commendable stop from Casual 'Ebay' Farrell at mid-wicket. The first wicket was clinched by a free sailing Boat and soon this started a build in momentum for the spirited Mancunions. Catches from Armitage and Tack added to the wicket tally and wicket keeper Frost performed a one man dismissal with an outstanding stumping from distance, followed by a flourished run out from a reloaded Dibble, off whose bowling many of the catches were achieved. Bowling from 'The Beast' kept things tight for the Lancastrians and the Yorkshire rabble were restricted to 87 runs from their 30 overs. After a weak tea of stale sandwiches, the calm and collected batting of Manchester proved no match for the fielders of Sheffield and captain Armitage held fort well, with commendable support provided from Frost in at three. The game was wrapped up quickly at 88-1 in the 17th over and thankfully we were all home in time for the second half of another significant Manchester victory that day. Today is truly a day of celebration for the red roses of Lancashire whose rise to glory and outstanding team spirit is a pleasure to observe." May 11th - YORK (AWAY)- CANCELLED May 15th - SHEFFIELD HALLAM (HOME)- CONCEDED With thanks to Ellie Tack for Match Reports. |
